By Madeleine Murphy Here at Montauk Juice Factory we love the ocean. Like a lot. We love looking at it, we love swimming in it, we love getting our butts kicked by it, and we even love DRINKING it. Yes, we know this may sound weird, but adding sea vegetables to your smoothies is one of the best ways to incorporate all-important minerals, trace minerals and clean protein into your diet. There are a multitude of wildly fantastic health benefits from being around the ocean and in the ocean, and consuming some of the sea minerals and vegetables that live in the deep blue. For instance, kelp and dulse have insanely high amounts of magnesium, potassium, folate, vitamin K, calcium and iron, as well as protein. They are rich in iodine which is crucial for a healthy metabolism and thyroid function. You can find kelp and dulse flakes in powdered form so you can easily add a scoop to your green smoothie. They do tend to have a salty or “oceany” taste but work well in a green drink or a fruit smoothie. One or two teaspoons won’t negatively impact the taste but will add a boost that can lead to a more balanced diet, increased energy and brighter skin. Here are two fantastic options to incorporate into your daily routine:
Glowing Green Juice 3 large leaves of green or purple kale (stripped from stem) 2 stalks of celery 1 medium size zucchini squash 1 cup of broccoli florets 1/2 parsnip 1 medium size cucumber 1 cup spinach leaves 1 inch ginger root 2 small lemons (remove the peeling) 1 teaspoon kelp granules or dulse flakes
Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie 1 banana 1 tablespoon chia seeds 2 tablespoons flax seed oil 1 teaspoon almond butter 1-1.5 cups almond milk 1 teaspoon kelp granules or dulse flakes 1 scoop rice protein powder 1/2 cup blueberries Madeleine Murphy is the Chief Growth Officer at Montauk Juice Factory. MJF was founded by childhood friends who have a deep rooted love for Montauk, healthy living and good vibes. Not necessarily the “typical juicers”, Bret, PJ and Madi love yoga, adventure and long runs on the beach but they also live for the occasional slice of pizza and cheeseburger. It is this balanced approach to life that led them to their love of cold pressed juicing as a convenient way to get raw goodness on the go.
This passion sent them on a mission to offer the best juice they can possibly make to a spot they deeply treasure. Besides their love of juice, chillness and all things Montauk, they are also fueled by a desire to serve the good vibes (straight up) and leave people and places better than they found them.
