Hydrating Cleanser
A Cleanser that Hydrates
Cleanser is the foundation to your skincare. It’s always the first step that lays the groundwork for the rest of your products to work to their highest potential. We all know that not washing our faces before bed will lead to all sorts of unwanted consequences, including acne and clogged pores. But - not all cleansers are created equal. In the winter when dry skin seems to plague so many of us, using the right cleanser is especially important. How do we know what will give us a deep clean that will also be the best clean for our skin?
The Daily Cleanse
A cleanser is supposed to give you an overall refreshing and calming feeling, so it’s a little disappointing when it instead has a drying or tightening effect on the skin. There are so many cleansers out there with different ingredients and textures - oil, cream, gel, foaming and more. While many people tend to prefer foaming and gel cleansers for their squeaky clean effects, we often find that they are on the harsher side for everyday use. The feeling of dry, tight skin after cleansing signals a lack of moisture and is actually disruptive to the skin’s protective film (acid mantle). Nothing is worse during the wintertime than that feeling of dehydration on your skin after an initial wash. An everyday cleanse, for any skin type, should gently and effectively wash away impurities, without stripping the skin of its natural oils that are needed to protect moisture. Rather, it should deliver some of the oils that our skin craves. The best way to achieve all of these desired effects, is with a hydrating cleanser.
The biggest benefit of a hydrating cleanser is the moisturization power that it brings to the skin. Our best-selling Hydrating Cleanser contains a wealth of essentials oils and botanical extracts, all beautifully derived in a gentle cream wash formula. Various purifying ingredients and high levels of natural emollients like Jojoba Oil and Sesame Seed Oil work to powerfully nourish and hydrate the skin. It provides that softening feeling that we know and love. The terms “oil” and “skin” are usually associated together in a negative way. People generally want to eliminate excess oil, or they believe that oil may lead to breakouts. But, when using oil in a cleanser, grime and impurities are much more easily broken down. Which is why ours doubles as a two in one makeup remover, helping to break down even waterproof mascara and eyeliner. And we promise, it’s much more effective than a makeup wipe, which brings about drying effects.
Double Cleansing
While we’re on the topic of makeup removal, it’s a good time to talk about the cleansing method that is the double cleanse. Many of us have surely experienced a full on skin care routine, just to realize once we apply toner with a cotton pad, that residue from foundation and other makeup still remains. This isn’t to say that your first cleanse wasn’t effective, but sometimes it takes a bit more to get rid of all impurities, especially on a full-face makeup day. In these cases, cleansing twice will do just the trick. A water-based cleanser like our Hydrating Cleanser, is the best way to remove water-based impurities, like sweat and dirt. However, a double cleanse, which incorporates an oil-based cleanser and a water based cleanser, is best for removing extra makeup, sunscreen and grime. As we’ve discussed before, oil and water don’t mix, which is why some days you need both to draw out the oil and water-based impurities that build up on the skin throughout the day.
Sensitive Skin Savior
A cream cleanser with hydrating and makeup removing benefits is ideal for all skin types, especially those with sensitive skin who suffer from conditions like eczema and rosacea, which cause more sensitivity and dryness than usual. As previously mentioned, winter weather is also a big culprit in causing these side effects. The natural emollients in Hydrating Cleanser allows all of the skin’s natural oils to remain intact, and even adds some back in that we may be missing. Cleansing is the basis of your skincare, so do yourself a favor and get this foundational step down so you can put your best, and softest, face forward.
